In recent years, river improvement-related measures promoted in Tainan City include: reduction and treatment of domestic wastewater sources, accelerated domestic wastewater treatment in drainage basin, reinforced investigation control against the industries along river coast in jurisdictional region and the execution of river environment education, all of which show good results. In addition to continuous investigation control of sewage system in the industries and communities, Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB) enhanced monitoring management of important river reaches that were much more likely to be polluted in jurisdictional region to avoid polluting the rivers; meanwhile, on-site permission and periodic data checking of the industries in jurisdictional region were implemented to put review and supervision of company’s honest reporting into practice, allowing the communities, schools and public interest groups to work together for the organization of river patrol volunteers and control the current situation of pollution sources for instant disposal. Emergency response measures were adopted for water pollution events, so as to immediately and effectively relieve crises of water quality pollution and ecological damage for further improvement and reduction of occurrence frequency of river pollution upon understanding and analyzing the causes of river pollution.
